Privacy policy
Effective November 5, 2026
The short version. TerraTrack has no accounts. Your pins, tracks, photos, notes, hunt log and saved areas stay on your phone, and your location is never sent to us or to advertisers. The app sends anonymous usage stats, which you can turn off, and shows Google ads, which are personalized only if you allow it.
What stays on your phone
Everything you create in TerraTrack is stored only on your device: pins and their photos and notes, recorded tracks, routes, lines and areas, trail camera logs, hunt log entries and saved offline areas. We don't run a server that receives them, and we can't see them. Deleting the app deletes them. When you export or share something (a spot, a hunt plan, a GPX or KML file), it goes only where you send it, through your phone's share sheet.
Location
TerraTrack uses your location on your phone to show where you are, to record tracks (with "Always" access, also while the screen is off, so a recording continues), to route and navigate, and to help recover game after a shot. Your location is not sent to us or to advertisers.
Map, weather and elevation data
To draw the map and look up conditions, the app downloads data for the area or spot you're looking at from TerraTrack's data host (Cloudflare) and from public services: USGS (topo maps and imagery), NASA (satellite imagery), NOAA (snow depth), the National Weather Service (forecasts, which are requested for a spot's coordinates), AWS Open Data (elevation) and the National Interagency Fire Center (fire perimeters). The 3D view also loads map software from unpkg.com. Like any website, these services receive your IP address and the area requested; they don't receive anything you've saved.
Usage stats
With "Allow tracking" on (Settings in the app, on by default), TerraTrack sends anonymous usage events to PostHog (US servers): which screens and features are used, the app version and the operating system, tied to a random ID created on install. They never include your location, coordinates, or anything you've typed or recorded, and they aren't linked to your identity. Turn "Allow tracking" off and nothing more is sent.
Ads
TerraTrack shows Google AdMob banner ads on a few planning screens (never on the map). Google may collect your IP address, device information, approximate location derived from your IP address, and how you interact with ads, to show and measure them. Ads are personalized, using Apple's advertising identifier, only if you tap "Allow" on Apple's tracking prompt and leave "Allow tracking" on. Otherwise they are non-personalized; with "Allow tracking" off, ad requests are also flagged for restricted data processing. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services. A one-time purchase removes ads.
Purchases
The Remove Ads purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We don't receive your payment details; the app only learns whether your Apple Account owns the purchase.
Camera and photos
The camera and your photo library are used only when you choose to attach a photo to a pin or import trail camera photos. Those photos are stored in the app on your phone.
Sharing and selling
We don't sell your personal information. Personalized ads may count as "sharing" under California law; to opt out, turn off "Allow tracking" in the app's Settings, or choose "Ask App Not to Track" on Apple's prompt (also in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking).
Your rights
Because we don't hold your saved data, there's nothing of yours on our side to access or delete beyond the anonymous usage stats, which aren't tied to you. California residents and others with privacy rights can contact us with any request and we'll respond within the time the law requires.
Children
TerraTrack isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
